What is RSS? RSS is a communications protocol used to publish digital content such as news, blogs, and podcasts. You can use software called a feed reader to subscribe to content published via RSS. Once you have subscribed to an RSS feed, each time something new is published, it is automatically delivered to you. Must I get a feed reader? Maybe, or maybe not. Some common web browsers, email clients, and news reading programs include feed readers. For example, the Firefox web browser can read RSS feeds through a feature called Live Bookmarks, and the Thunderbird email program contains a feed reader that makes RSS content look like ordinary email.

Instructions for Configuring a Thunderbird Email Client

1. Create an RSS News & Blogs account: If this is the first time that you are using Thunderbird to read news or blogs via RSS, you must begin by creating an RSS News and Blogs account.
   • Click on File / New / Account. This brings you to the Account Wizard, New Account Setup.
   • Select RSS News & Blogs. Click Next.
   • Enter an account name. This name is used for the Thunderbird folder that all of your RSS feeds will be stored in. The default name, News & Blogs, is fine.
   • Click Next, and Click Finish. The News & Blogs folder will appear near the bottom of your list of mail folders.
2. Subscribe to the Deerfield Manor RSS feed:
   • Scroll to the News & Blogs folder.
   • Click News & Blogs.
   • In the right pane, click on Manage Subscriptions.
   • Click Add
   • In the Feed URL box, insert http://www.deerfieldmanor.com/tinc?key=o1gs7zpF
   • Click OK.
   • Close the window (click on the X in the upper right corner).
3. You're done! You should now see Deerfield Manor Updates listed under News & Blogs. This folder will be updated each time the Deerfield Manor web site is updated.
